Couple of questions

First, I was looking into buying a new carb for added performance, and was checking out the webers on racingbeat.com. They looked decent but said they have trouble cold starting, and I have to be able to drive my car in the cold weather. Also, they look to be 2 barrels or am I mistaken. I suppose if I were to get a new carb I might as well remove the rat's nest. Also, I tried uploading some new pictures but it said the file is too large. How do I make it smaller? Thanks for the advice

What other mods have been done to the motor?

As far as the file size, I believe it tells you when you are attempting to load what the maximum size is.
I usually downsize mine to about 40%.

The motor is all stock except for a bonex midpipe (resonater with high-flow cat) even the muffler is stock but if it made much difference I suppose I could change that. Also the car has 78000 miles if that means anything.

Ahhh my long lost confedant. For daily driving, Weber's wouldn't be ideal, at least in my opinion. you would definitely need one with a choke. I have a Weber on my Repu and the choke is fubar so It's a bitch to get started. It's basically playing tap dance with the accelerator. If you haven't already, buy an optima battery, you'll never regret it. Removing the rats nest would be good if you don't need emissions. If you don't need emissions I'd ditch the cat all together and run a header-straight pipe-RB muffler. I think for starters though with the carbs, I'd just start modifying the Nikki along with other mods until you're ready to move to a Weber or Holley or even a Sterling. That's just my 2 cents. I haven't talkied to you in a while man. If you have Yahoo or MSN shoot me a PM with your name

I purchased the Holley 4-barrel carb & racing beat intake kit from mazdatrix... the kit had everything i needed - didn't have to run to the parts house for anything... The carbureator comes with a thermal choke with a copper tube you run down to the exhaust manifold/header.. It's nothing special, you could run down to the parts store and put an electric one on there if you wanted to. Thermal choke seems to work good for me. It is a bit expensive, but the car runs great.

I had a newly rebuilt motor that i could never start with the stock carb (prolly just dirty), i put this carb setup on it and put some fresh spark plugs in it and it started right up!!!

If you're looking for added performance, but want to maintain the driveability of the car, check into Sterling carbs. Probably the cheapest solution, and is a very nice unit that runs great in my autox/daily driver...
