A couple of 1g questions.
Hey everyone. First post here. This board looks like it'll be great for information.
I've got my 1g CRX, rebuilding it as we speak, but I'm also looking into getting a non-Honda RWD, just to experience something different.
So I was browsing around the junkyard the other day, and found 3 bright red 1g RX-7s. Two of them were carb'd, and had very straight bodies. One was fuel injected, and was pretty much munched.
I asked the owner, he said I could have one of the carb'd cars for 250. They both had blown engines. He said I could have the fuel injected car for 500, since it's got a good engine and transmission.
So I think I'm going to go for it. What I'd like to know, how difficult is it to swap a fuel injected rotary into a carb'd rotary RX-7? Logic tells me that the mounts should be the same, and that it'd just take some rewiring..but working on the CRX tells me that cars are not always logical beasts.

Yeah, shutup kid.
Search for GSL-SE engine into 12a car. It's been done many times, and it a relatively easy and well documented swap. I think you need to change the front cover, engine mount and oil pan. Plus the wiring for the EFI setup. But for how cheap you can get a 1st gen 7, it's probably not worth it. You can get a decent condition FB(other name for 'em) for $750-$1400, and one in good/great shape for $1250-$2000. Especially in CA, seems like all the good ones for a good price are out there.
I bet you'll love the FB, it's a great, cheap, reliable sports car as long as you take care of it.

Yeah. I started looking around eBay. They're fairly cheap..like 2-400 bucks.
I might look into a 2g convertable, too. But every one I've seen is an automatic.

Yeah, shutup kid.
I don't think you really want a 2nd gen, especially not a 'vert. The verts are the heaviest and slowest by far of all the 7's. The 2nd gens just don't have the feel of a sports car, they're more like a sporty touring car. Their feel is a lot like a late '80s early 90's Supra. 1st gens feel like a big go-kart If you do get a 2nd gen, the best n/a models are the GTU-s and the GTU, they're lighter and have better performance. The TII's are the best of the 2nd gens.
