Couldn't resist another 1st gen

What's up everyone. Been out of the RX7 game for awhile but recently picked up a 82 GS and couldn't be happier to be back.

Last RX7 I owned was a 85 GSL with a bridge ported 12a but being 17 at the time, money was tight and sadly had to let her go. Now 27, after waiting for the right one to pop up I bought this one. It's an 82 with 104k, 3 owner GS originally out of MA. The paint was redone sometime in the mid 90s, not perfect but looks nice. Just finished painting and installing the windshield moldings, mirrors and door trims. Minor rust bubbles on the pass. 1/4 will most likely be remedied with a set of ZG flares. Car is lowered on a set of RB springs and 15x7 Kosei K1. Which will be swapped out once the ZG flares are installed

Interior was all there with the exception of a few wear holes in the door panels and tear in the driver seat. Door panels are getting re-wrapped by a friend as we speak and a set of RB black vinyl covers will be added in the following months. Minor interior upgrades are being done. The Nardi Gara wheel came with the car, Redline Goods Nappa shift boot and e-brake cover were installed. Picked up a Miata wood brake handle that I'm refinishing to try and match the Nardi wheel. Just waiting on one of the unicorn JDM Miata 5 speed ***** to pop up.

Engine was stock with a RB cat back, just last night I finished 99% of the Direct Fire install with 2 MSD coils and 6A box. Bought a set of "build your own" MSD 8.5mm wires and cleaned the wiring up over there a bit. Just purchased a RB manifold that I will be putting a Edelbrock Thunder 500 on.

Nice one. Just please keep it off of snowy roads! I purchased my '85 in Fall River, MA where it lived it's first four years. The rest of the time it has been down south. It has rust in the bins and a few other areas. Northern roads are tough on these cars!

Stock sway bars. The springs are surprisingly stiff

Excellent find! I see that it has the SA high back seats. Keeping those or going with a set of 82/83 seats?

Very nice!

On the direct fire, you may want to shift the trailing wires to the leading connectors on the cap, that will eliminate the spark gap in the dizzy cap. Just put the coil wire on the center connector and the plug wires to the leading connectors.

The 6A box is mounted in the radiator shroud just opposite from the battery and all wiring was ran up next to the headlight harness.

The brake handle I wasn't going to get my hopes up. My thoughts were, "how much could Mazda have changed their brake handle from 82 to 91" lol. And for $30 I gave it a shot. I had to "crimp" the brake lever itself together and even after it was still a little tight so I used this rod with a cutout that a piece of sandpaper fits in, put it in the drill and had to open it up a tiny bit. Fits perfect now though. Just have to refinish it and try to match the wheel.

I'm just trying to get back in the rotary groove. It's been awhile lol. Most of my time the last few years has been spent on this thing

That's a helpful tip, thanks!

Interior is pretty much buttoned up. Installed the Racing Beat covers after repairing the seat foam. Door panels I just finished up about an hour ago, pretty happy with the outcome.
