You could have just purchased a Air/Fuel ratio gauge.

So the combustion is at least optimal, and 16 mpg is likely close to norm, given the terrain.

The narrowband ones aren't very accurate, and are only good for idle and cruise. I might as well hook up a voltmeter to my O2 and just look at that. Wideband sensors/gauges cost a lot of money, and unless I'm going to tune the car, I have no need to invest in that at the time.

Plus I wanted to look at some other stuff while on a dyno, things I wouldn't be able to observe when driving.

I'm running a K&N air filter.
I have an electric fan sitting around somewhere, but I haven't gotten around to installing it and that's not really a priority right now.
Also I'm using an '83 tranny right now, and I'll be swapping in a proper GSL-SE tranny soon.

I think the terrain is quite a factor. I'm usually lucky to get 30 mpg in my bare-bones Accent, and that's driving it as gently as possible.

BTW, I hear second gen coils don't make much difference. I have one and I've used it before, and I can't say I've felt any improvements.

Why do you want to put in another transmission?

There is only a marginal difference in the 5th gear ratio's between the 83 12a transmission and the SE ones. The 84-85 12a's have a taller 5th gear but if you are looking for a better 5th gear then get a 88 S4 transmission.

Well with the 2nd gen leading coil and 2nd gen (not 1st gen plugs) I got 1.5 MPG more and was verified on 2 trips to the same place with and without the 2nd gen coil. The DLIDFIS is a much better spark system and is worth the time to put one together!

Forgot to add.

Have you make sure that your 5th / 6th port actuators are operating correctly?

Well, I have a few reasons to get the proper transmission put in, I won't go into them.

Maybe I'll try hooking up 2nd gen coil and plugs again, just to see.

Anyway, good thing you brought up the 5th and 6th ports, I meant to check their function and keep forgetting. Thnx for the reminder.
