I have come to the conclusion that they are better to have then not to have. Heres why: they keep the carbon build up under the apex seal spring and corner seal springs to a minimum by blocking gas flow under them.
And I have to believe in some way, probably cushin (to some extent at least) the apex seal as they do travel up and down the groove.
I'd like to hear more about what others think or "know" about why you would and wouldn't want to use them.

Thanks for the info. guys. that makes sence they would cut down carbon build up under the seal. With that said I'm going to spend the $20 and get 'em.
