Cooling System
I was looking into upgrading my cooling system for my '85 12A RX-7. I was thinking a high-performance radiator and electric fans. I can't find any that are specifically designed for an 85, does anybody know where I can find a system specifically for my car. Thanks

Are there any aftermarket systems designed specifically for 1st gens, no. Overall, the stock system is more than adequate to meet our cooling needs. However, as most all of us want to upgrade hp and performance, there are a couple of things to take note of. On the beehive equipped engines, a tall 3-core/row radiator is a good start. Any electric fan should produce 2000-2500+ cfm, controlled by a thermostat. Since approximately 30% of cooling is through the oil system, the addition of an FMOC, as per my write-up in the archives, will do as much or more than the addition of and e-fan.
Other contributing factors are making sure that the stock fan shroud and windage tray are in place. If either one of these are missing, cooling capacity is diminished. Even the silly little plastic grill plays a role in funneling air through the radiator core.

The best way to improve your cooling system is to replace the heater hose that goes under the beehive because eventually oil drips from the beehive will rot that heater hose allowing it to burst and either leave you stranded by the side of the road OR you will try to drive home and the engine will overheat causing internal seals to leak and giving you a lifetime headache.
Replace that hose! If you're too cheap to pay mazdatrix.com the $50 for it, you CAN work a 5/8" autostore hose in there but it's difficult.
That's the best thing you can do for your cooling system.
