Coolant leak question
Coolant leak question
Hey everyone just traded my 86 FC for a 84 with a big streetport and some racing beat goodies.
about 3 weeks after the trade my car has developed a coolant leak. It only leaks when the car has cooled down after driving it. Coolant puddles on top of the intake manifold both in the front and rear and down the side of the housings. It only loses about 8 oz of coolant onto the manifold and ground. I havnt quite gotten into tearing one of these motors apart yet, so im kind of lost. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

sounds like the coolant o-rings in between the intake manifold and the rotor housings have gone bad or were fudged up during installation. remove the intake manifold and replace the two o-rings and the intake manifold gasket.
i take it u have the 12a model since u can actually see the part of the intake where it bolts to the engine. possibly just the intake O rings leaking. got pix? i think the 13b in the gslse has a coolant line that goes to the intake that could leak onto that area.
aweome, thanks guys. and yes its a 12a. im currently trying to find a smaller carb for it, as the previous owner thought it was a good idea to put a 750 double pumper on the car.
get some of these and never have to worry about leaking coolant again... plus they're cheap...

Stock manifold gasket is what you need.
I also agree that the freez plugs are a good idea, otherwish anytime you remove you intake you lose your coolant. the plugs allow you to avoid this mess. Just coat them with a little silicone sealant and bump them in. This makes the instalation easier and insures no leaks!
