Coolant leak

While I was doing some adjustments to the carb the other day, I noticed a small pool of coolant on the engine, under the rats nest. After I was done. I parked it on the driveway and found that it was leaking coolant onto the ground as well. At first I thought it was maybe the water pump but now I am not so sure. I have bought a water pump and I also bought those intake o-rings to change. My question is, which of the two is it more likely to be? I fit is the o-rings, how the hell do you get the intake off?

I have a Haynes manual but it is not very useful I am finding.

Leaky o-rings would pool on the passenger side of the engine rather than under the rat's nest. The mainfold is held on by 4 bolts located at the upper and lower ends and two nuts located on the underside in the middle. You might want to take the carb off first, but then you'd have to deal with the nuts that hold the carb on the mani, and that's not fun.

Do you see any signs of coolant in the exhaust?

No, there hasn't been any signs of coolant in the exhaust, and for sure nothing in the oil. I just changed the oil the other day and it was good. I just finished changing the water pump and I think that may be what the problem was. I think the fan was maybe blowing the coolant as it leaked out, hence the coolant under the rats nest. The pump itself seemed OK but the parts of the gasket seemed to be gone. I think the gasket likely wasn't prepped properly. I put a new gasket and a new pump on. I'll keep the other pump as a spare, I guess.

You sound suspiciously like Killer Alpine from the SSCC boards.

Am I right?

(SA22C here.)

You better be coming out to SSiS!

Yep, that's me. I want so bad to get up there for that event. Everything I hear about it makes it sound like a blast. I go back to work tomorrow but start some holidays on Monday, so if I can get this coolant thing sorted out, I will be up. I finally got rid of the smoking and the popping, now this!
