Coolant from exhaust after sitting

Hello all,

I've got a longblock I pulled recently from a project car that's been sitting a couple of years that ran fine when parked and I'd hoped to sell it, but today when I spun it a puddle of coolant came out of the exhaust ports.

My question is, is the motor a core now? Or would the seals reseal?

Thanks,

-dave

It either overheated at some point, or old nasty coolant ate through the aliminum. Either way it's tear down time.

Do you have any enemies? Any pranksters? Could someone have poured a little coolant into an exhaust port qwhile you were away?

Whatever. Tear it down and take a look. Another one bites the dust.

Well, I feared as much after seeing the puddle. Now that I think of it, I recall the car it was in used to drink a bit of coolant every now and again between oil changes. Guess I know why now.

I pulled the the manifold off to find congealed antifreeze sitting on rusted rotors after the first engine I dug into had sat for 10 years w/ bad coolant seals...when the exhaust fell to the ground, it went splash.
-If you pull it apart and the hard seals are ok, you could probably get away w/ just a soft seal replacement kit

Thanks for the advice, but I'm divesting myself of all things RX-7 so a rebuild isn't going to help. I've already learned the hard way that anything invested in these cars isn't coming back, no matter how good a value it seems.

"Splash" sounds very bad. Mine was about a palm-sized puddle after the rotors were spun for a bit. Heck, I'm wondering if the thing wouldn't give good service anyways, but I'll see if I can sell it as a core.

That's probably the best idea rather than opening it up.

+1 if you are trying to avoid spending money on rotaries
