if u have the 84-85 6ports, then use the 12-a plates to convert to a 4-port; 86+ 6-ports, use the turbo II plates.

Sorry if this is a totaly stupid question..but why would you want to do that? What are the benefits and what plates are you speaking of?

You can get a bigger port on a 4 port than you can on a six port. A six port can't be opened up a whole lot . A bigger port means more power.
You use the side housings from a 12a because they only have the four ports instead of the 6.

6-port end plates already have as much duration as the biggest street ports.

In a thread in the FC forum, Dave Lemon of Mazdatrix confided that one problem that they're having with their E/Production convertible project is that the engine (a 6-port) has no HP peak. It just keeps climbing and climbing past 10k (which is where their dyno tach stops!) with no end in sight.

Yow.
