considering a mode 1 mariah widebody

I want everyone's honest opinion.

Reasons Im considering it

1) I have a little bit of quarter rust, this will able me to cut out all rusted areas and not worry about how the 'fixed' place looks..

2) I can use much wider wheels etc..

3) I need a new front bumper, and fender anyways, mine have small problems, and my bumper cover its whacked off anyways.

Reasons Im not considering it

1) Might look ricey

2) Attracts attention, if the exhaust doesnt LOL

3) Adds weight

4) Looks kinda dated, and dunno if it looks right for the 1st gen's body lines etc

questions I have anyone here have this kit, I want to know how much 'fun' it is to install. I got to thinking but on the back one is gonna have to cut out quite a bit of the wheel arch cause the wider wheels would hit the quarters?

Opinions? Pictures?

I talk to them on the phone today and I ALMOST said yeah send me one.

go to www.mariahmotorsports.com and choose products/exterior/79-85 and mode 1 wide body or just look in the gallery, they have them in there in red/blue/gold/white etc

Wow! Some of those kits look amazing! The mode 1 has it's pluses and minuses. Minus - The front air dam looks nasty. Plus - The fenders make it look REALLY nice. Too bad they didn't come that way stock. Personally, I like the Mode 4 better

When you get your package, there will be a sticker on it that says: "Inspect before signing".

Absolutely, DO NOT, sign for the package before and let the driver (who will be irritated and in a hurry) leave.

My body shop guy signed for my IMSA front spoiler and it had the whole side torn off. NO PACKING!!!!! Crushed in transit. The warning on the box is there for a reason, most likely to protect MMS from losing money (poorly packed or not).

My last purchase from them.

But, luv my spoiler

How much did your Imsa spolier run you and were did you get it??

I much prefer the Imsa spolier over the Mariah mode 1. I agree it does look pretty nasty.

I've never been a fan of the mariah kits. I like the stock fenders much bettter. I'm with you 851stgen12a; the IMSA air dam and spoiler look much better, nice and clean.

i had the mariah kit on my gsl-se when i got the car, it now has a torn up stock bumper, it looks better. imo, if you have an open shirt, lots of chest hair and gold chains then get the mariah.
me, i would get the real imsa stuff from mazdacomp, its prolly about the same money

All the widebodies you guys have seen are old, dated, bad colors, etc.

If you get a brand new kit, (not a copy), paint it well with plenty of clear-coat in a nice modern color, you will love it. You can then reposition your intercooler to "grin" through the opening too.

Mike, you know my thoughts. I am definately getting one if I can't get the kit I want from Japan.

Mine will be an Artic Silver mode one, with the IMSA (Mazda) 3 piece tail, and the rocker panels from the SA widebody.

Gonna Be Bad ***. Also, they also look like crap if they are all show, and no go. Something you won't have a problem with.

I suppose thats a good point directfreak. Everytime I hear the name mariah i think of that god aweful hatch piece they make that totally ruins the lines of the back end. I still wound't get a mariah kit for any of my cars though.

I got the IMSA 3 piece tail, he said it shouldnt be a problem, but looking at the pictures and not seeing the bare kit, i beg to differ.

There might be some molding in involved. Zyounker has a widebody FB with that tail.

I have to say the photos on the Mariah web site look poor.

Mode 1 ,,mike,, The front fenders are mariah fiberglass
replacments, just the rear needs to be graphed on..I agree,, i don't like the mariah hatch either,,I do know this : when mariah ships. the contents are well packed
in sturdy box's.. the wider front fenders won't gain a wider wheel.. the front insides will still rub the insides of the fender wells.. I can say,, the mariah stuff is made good, not super thin, it doesn't flex,it's ridgid, when i installed my frontend i used rubber washers to shock mount the pieces,, so it won't crack the glass around where the mounting bolts go through.. I like the look of the mariah's. but not mode 1,,no widebody, so i went with mode four.. all's i need to do is pick out a colour to paint my 7..it always goes back to the silver. a 1st gen with a mariah kit in silver is the ****,,i like the mode five and six for the fc's,,only in white,,,for me,,,IMO

not that bad

Guys,
The pictures on the Mariah website are very old and dated so, that doesn't help and niether do the images.. To get a real sense of what the kit looks like, you have to see one in person... then one can make up their minds. I've seen both real ugly and real nice set ups on the MODE-1.. it's all in the execution...

The Mariah nose is not really that bad.. I really didn't like it at 1st but, it finally grew on me.. and I like silver too.

Bern Id like to see the rear of the car.. Also what does it look like when looking up in the wheel well. I know to get a wider wheel on there, you will have to cut the lip of the quarter out

Any other close up pics yuo have, a side view of the bodyline would be nice too. I cant see on in person, cause no one has one around here Which is a plus.

Any know what the kit weighs, and what it actually adds to the car?

Any other kits I might look at?

Most of the ITA Rx-7's in my area have the Mariah mode 1. some if the look great!, but on the other hand there a few that look like total ****.

if the paint and install is done right, than it should look pretty good.

Any other websites that offer 1st gen body kits?

I remember there was an aussie site that had some?
