considering getting 1st gen

Hey dudes, I'm totally new to this RX-7 world, but I'm thinking about joining. I got a Focus right now that's just about ready to get boosted once I finish fabricating everything. I'm toying with the idea of getting a 1st gen as my next project, and I was wondering what I should know about them. Stuff like common problems, what to look for when purchasing, etc. Also, besides popping the hood, is there a way to tell if it has the 12A or the 13B?

Hey, man. Good to see you on here! For 1st gens, all models have a 12A except for the GSL-SE model, which came with a 13B.

no worries, the questions you are asking now are totally acceptable, just do not ask us how to put a fart can or gull wing doors and you will proably be ok.

Haha, yeah I'd never consider that **** for any car. If I do find one, it would be a project car meaning for me that I'd want to make a considerable amount of power (read: do 13s at the slowest). Would I be ok to turbocharge the 12A as is or swap something else like the 12AT or 13B? How well are the 12As able to handle boost?

Oh dear, now you tipped the iceberg with the turbo question lol

They handle boost just fine. TII swap (second gen) is more common than turboing the 12A.

People have done both as well as SC the 12A.

Lot of work, lot of custom work, decent amount of money.

Get it! Best driving experience ever.
Couldn't live without mine now. Not the fastest thing, but it's freaking sweet through the corners. People cannot believe the handling through the corners when I let them drive it.

12a=carburated
13b=says RE-EGI on the top. Storage bin area is rust spot, definately try and get the car on a lift.
