I'm with you. I have a 100mile roundtrip drive to my folks' place on the weekend to work on my project, and I was going to buy a 3rd gen Prelude to commute with. I found the '82 7 while I was looking for a Prelude, or I would've gotten one eventually.

I wouldn't buy one (a Honda) as a performance ride, strictly because I don't care for FWD, but I wouldn't feel a bit bad about zipping around in a Prelude. They look good.

my suggestion is get a cheap honda to use as a daily driver and keep on with the rx7.....

dude think about how much time you've spent on the 7's....just because an idea popped into your mind now, doesn't mean ur gunna enjoy it for long.....i bet u will be back, since you've proved to have a love affair with the rx7.

nick

p.s. i also don't want u in a honda cuz you're not gunna sell me those wheels if you do

I don't see how you ever thought this was a defenseable position on this forum. Frankly: you were going for attention, looking to get flamed.

Turbo Hondas are just about as reliable as FD's. Honda engines are not built to handle boost. But you keep telling yourself its a good idea, you're the one thats spending the money.

Definately try to get an early-mid '90s hatch with a turbo motor. 150 whp with minor weight reductions will net you high thirteens with great gas mileage.

My brother's '93 hatch with gutted interior, GS-R engine, intake, header, and exhaust ran 14.1 with a crappy launch and damn near over heating. With a G-tech, the car measured 140 hp.

BTW, to those of you hating on the non-hatch civics, take a look at a friend of mine's old car. It's a 1996 Civic four door that ran low 12s. One of the few Civics that I have ever truly enjoyed to look at. Subtle body kit, bronze wheels, and a red carbon fiber hood with green paint in the center. The car was perfect. And yes... That is a cut Ford Focus badge on the front. Heh. If you cannot respect a 4 door civic that looks good and runs 12.1s as a daily driven car, you are not a true car enthusiast.

If it's fuel cost that is ultimately turning your coat, get a a Jetta Turbodiesel ( 45-50 mpg ) and surprisingly quick and longlegged as hell.

I had one for for a couple of years and regret selling it now. It was another extra car besides my widebody that sat there most of the time while the Expedition and the BMW got driven daily.

Hey, Gregs... I just read the post on the blue SE with the Iroc 305 and it made me think... you just need to drop a Honda engine into a 7 for your daily driver as long as gas prices are high.

Of course, I remember gas being .29 when I was a kid. I bought it for .59 as I started driving and you know what ? It always just goes up and up.

So you'll have to drive the Honda forever, I guess.

How would you rate the reliability of one of those Dave? I have a friend who was looking at one yesterday with low miles. He asked me that very question, and I didn't have a clue as there aren't many of them over here.

I was 2nd owner. It was a 2000 model and had almost 90k on it when I sold it. I never had one single thing go wrong with that vehicle. That turbodiesel is is the same engine for the Jetta TDI, the disel Beetle, and I believe the Passat as well.

I was very impressed. I have had BMW and Mercedes over the years and there is some German heritage in the Jetta as well ( quiet for a diesel, solid, fit, handling and suspension ).

BTW, that car has red and bluish purple lighting and is by far the best looking night time interior from door to dash and console to other door.

Also, I got over 50 mpg from Charlotte NC to Albany, GA doing 60-85. I couldn't believe it !

You guys are underestimating turbo Hondas. I had a turbo 89 turbo prelude and I would blow away street ports and stock TII's. This was years ago and since then the market is gotten a lot bigger with better products. I would get a cast iron manifold, T3/4, intercooler SAFC hack if i were to do it now. But one thing I notice with Hondas is the reliability goes way down once you go turbo.

Hondas are gay. They don't suck... but they do hold it in their mouth til the swelling goes down. Know what I mean, vern ?

Wow, Gregs - 3 years of ownership, huh? Long experience that you speak of there.

Maybe you don't realize that a good mix of us have been driving these cars since they were NEW in 1980 and 1984... Some even have REPU and RX-2/3/4 from the 70's.

Have fun with your Honda.
