Question Computer?

I was recently talking to my friend about future mods for my car. He owns an Eclipse, and said that when he got a computer for his car it actually added power, because of the timing, etc.

My question is: Can you get a computer for an 18 year old car, and what would the computer do for my car?

Can the simple reprogramming of all the functions actually help add power for my car, or is it just ricer BS?

even if you did it wont do the timing cause we have dizzy's, not direct fire like the eclipse would.

You can fit an aftermarket ECU , its a lot of work and not really worth it unless you have a radically modified engine

What modle, and year is your car?

If it is carbed there is no computer to be had hence the fact its carbed.

Moding an RX7 is abit different then moding other cars. See you can change your exhaust to a free flowing one and increase in power. This increase has the potential to be greater in the RX7 (proviede the rotory is intacted) then your friends eclips.

Do your selfe a favor and search about mods here and talk to people here. Not because your friend is giving you bad advice, but because moding an RX7 is different in comparison to other cars.

Good luck

I had my suspicions... I still really don't know much about sevens, and what I do is either from here, or a basic understanding derived from my Haynes manual. I'll have to look into that more.

Thanks.

Yeah, pretty much can't get one, until you get a nice S5 or S6 turbo motor in ya seven...... no point getting a Comp until you get a kick turbo or a port!

an after market computer can do a few things.. timing, fuel air mixture, injection timing, ect. some power gain is from timing but a lot can be gained from more fuel(especialy with those civics geting 35 mpgm drop it to 10 mpg) but l;ike it has been stated, rx-7s are different.
