Compression Question

I know there are probably plenty of threads that deal with compression issues, but I am looking for some quick, general opinons from the pros...I'm looking at picking up a fairly decent '85 GS as a parts car...the owner says the car is complete and the engine will turn over, and spit and sputter but will not run. He has done a compression test and there is ZERO compression. My question is, what are the possible causes of zero compression, does it mean a complete engine rebuild, or what are the chances of getting this particular engine running again? All replies appreciated. Thanks!

Well, its a long shot but you might try this; pick up a can of SeaFoam and dump it down the carb while rotating the engine. Then just let it sit in there for a couple of days before you recheck the compression. If the apex seals are just clogged up with carbon, then this might break them free.
