Compression/No Power....

Hey guys- I am trying to figure out wearing I need to grow a bigger pair of *****.... or if my engine is taking a trip to the dark side...

I was at Lowes Motor Speedway about 3 weeks ago and my engine just did not seem to be making power. No trouble getting it started and it seemed to wind up just fine... it just does not seem to have allot of power.... Carburator has been rebuilt to IT specs....

My first thing I am going to do is a compression test.... however I am still new to these engines... from my understanding... you pull the shrater (spelling) valve out of the compression guage and put it in the trailing hole and see where she bounces too.... I have only owned this car for about a year so I do not know exactly what mods are done...so I dont know what compression SHOULD BE..... However....what should I see in order to sustain life?

Any other sugestions.... Anyone have an engine to sell? Its an IT7 car....so- cant do toooo much to it....

A good motor will show 100-115+ psi, 80-85, time to look for a fresh one. With the schrader valve removed, you may not see bounces that high, keep the valve in an hold it, watch the bounces, then release the valve and take the highest reading from each rotor.

You can do an ear test with the lower plug removed to listen for any differences in the 'whoosh'.

Leading Plug hole..bottom one.also make sure that you are doin the Comp Test At wide Open throttle so you get max AIR FLOW..on a Warm engine.(CAS disconnected and Hopefully Fuel too..Precautionary)

Sure you're getting spark on the leading plugs?

Yeah, make sure you have spark. Check your fuel filter, then run a can of Seafoam through the gas tank with 1/8 tank of gas (then drive it like you stole it). This will free up your seals and regain compression. I do this every 6 months or so, and can always feel a difference...

as said, check for spark because if it's cranking right up even when hot then your probably not to down on compression.
