Common cause of power loss on Nikki carbureted models

When adjusting the slack in the throttle cable, hold the pedal to the floor and tighten the cable only to the point where the butterflies are fully open. Any tighter than that, and you can damage the carb..

Son of a.... I thought mine was connected proper because as soon as i hit 4Krpm my just gets another kick of power but guess what! It was not on there... Man i gotta do some work on that car in the morning. its 2am and im bored and if i get it running tonight ill get the cops called on me...
So i just pull that cable and put it up there? Or do i need to add a little bit of slack on it first?

Oh man!
I'm stuck at work and I just bought a first gen 12A motor to drop into my 808 Wagon...
Now i'm hanging to get home and check the carby as the previous owner said the "engine runs oK but it's a little sluggish"
Makes me wanna throw the engine into the wagon sooner instead of waiting until after winter!

I was wondering about that too since I didn't notice a difference. It was too dark when I fixed mine but I didn't see it moving anything. I probably just didn't look hard enough.

If it was "disconnected" from it's proper spot, and I put it back up in it's proper spot, and didn't notice any real difference, it's quite possible that my secondaries aren't opening at all?
Even if my car pulls fairly hard through the top end of the rev band, and feels almost as quick as my 140WHP FC did?
It doesn't seem that just primaries would do that. *shrug*

^exactly what he said...
Except, I'm pretty sure my secondaries are working. After I rebuilt my carb and I made the mistake of leaving the secondaries disconnected, the car was completely ball-less. I hooked it up and it ran how I thought it should. I'm just confused on this linkage or whatever.

So, I pulled my carb off because I was bored and working on mechanical secondaries.
I don't think this has much to do with the secondaries at all. I think it's just a backup throttle return spring.
If the primary spring fails, it releases the teeter totter, which lets this one down.
If it's not "where it belongs," you should just have heavier throttle effort as you're fighting 2 springs instead of 1 - I don't see it blocking the secondaries anywhere. My carb isn't original, though, so... maybe there's a linkage somewhere mine doesn't have.

Well it directly has relation to the secondaries in some form or another, although I'm not exactly sure how myself. It was unhooked on my FB and the throttle was stiffer than normal and it had no ***** at all. Hooked them up, problem solved. I did this on my SA however, and while it did lighten the pedal up, it only made a marginal difference in power. Of course at the time the carb was running rich as hell so I'm nor sure if it would make a difference in power output now if I unhooked it or not

i didn't wanna open up a new thread when this was here. ok i read somewhere else about the teeter totter thing and i had to research on what it was. so i came across this and made me wanna go check on my car, and i found this set-up...
... i let one of my friends work on it back when i didn't know anything about rotaries and i believe he called it a "cheat-screw" now i'm not having complaints about my set up, i like the fact that it works on 2bbl all the time unless i really wanna get on it, and it makes me feel good whenever i can say that i've beaten a few cars with 2b starts, and most of the time, i don't even go past the 2b.
so i guess my question is, is this set-up correct? or is there something i have to do to it?
he's a cool guy but i've found a thing here and there that he's done wrong by reading on this site. mainly vacuum line re-routing after he took my ratt's nest off.
