cold start problem

before when my engine would crank for a few seconds then it would start and the rpms would jump to 500-750 and hold an idle, even when the engine was cold

now it takes more than a few seconds and it fires than slowly builds up, as i throttle it up to idle. and it wont idle until its at operating temp. this all happened today. i cant think of why. yesterday i fixed my exhaust leak, installed a new alternator, rerouted my vacuum lines(i had lung mustard), and installed my older ngks.

after these problems i changed back to my old plugs, and put the vacuum lines back to how they were before. no change. i considered that it was just because of the severe cold this morning, but after class it was around 50 degrees, and i had the same problem, also seemed to be smoking a bit more than usual, however i could be wrong about the smoking.

any ideas?? thanks....

car details in sig.

The rule of thumb with me has always been the same.
It did not have the problem until you did the listed work to the engine.

Go back and recheck everything in the area that you were working. Piece by piece, area by area. Chances are something was disturbed in the process.

i think ive figured it out, all the fuel is draining out of the floats and my inline fuel filter and almost flooding it, then it has to re-prime the fuel system. hows that sound?

Sounds likely, but why is the fuel draining? Got your vent solenoid hooked up?
