MT Coils?

Hey all, just wantd to know of the different coils I can place on a factory stock engine, Plus the image I attached is a pic of the factory stock coils, I would like to know if I can use any standard or performance coil without modifying anything else.

1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL (4bbl Nikki, 12A 1.1L., 5 Speed manual) all factory stock except whats in sig.

but wont an inexpensive coil, from someplace like Napa for $19 work, Can I basicaly use any universal coil?

I don't want a specific one that costs $100 for example. I am just trying to meet origional factory specs.

I am going to hazard a guess and say no. There is a reason EVERYONE searches for the first gen (J109?) and the second gen coils.
Alot of people upgrade to MSD ignition boxes or GM ignitors. Search for ignitor and maybe conversion or replacement. Also there is stuff in the archives.

Like oh so much of the rotary stuff. Not much is interchangeable with "cheap piston parts"

You can get stock replacements (new or used) or you could get something like the MSD Blaster 2 coils. I think they are around $30 each. A lot of people use them. They drop into the stock location. Search around a bit because there are a couple versions of this coil. One version is not made to mount horizontally (like our stock mounting location). I believe the MSD Blaster 2 coils that you are looking for are call "high vibration" or somethying like that.

What is wrong with your coils? Just replacing due to age?
