Coil wire not connected

Why would the previous owner seal off this wire ? And what does it do. Should I plug it back it or just let it be?

Pic not that clear,is that terminal taped up,what color is the wire in it? That should be the trigger wire for trailing ignition. Comes from trailing igniter on side of distributor(toward back) and goes to trailing coil negative(-) primary terminal. Take a clear pic of front of connector(opposite end of where wire comes into it). Without being plugged in,you have no trailing ignition system. As stated previously, car will start and run without it,mostly for emissions. Possible connector/wire unintentionally knocked off, unless previous owner/mechanic did so OR.... that happened when you got hit in fender. Damage to your fender is directly opposite where ignition coils are bolted to inner fender. Coincidence? Maybe/maybe not. With car running, plug wire back into coil - terminal(low voltage circuit, you won't get shocked). Car may idle noticeably smoother, slightly faster.

The connector is there , it's just taped up very well . I'm going to take some pictures right now. Is there any negative to not having working trailing plugs

Plugged it in, car ran exactly the same except now the dowl pin leak got much much worst . Also i noticed prior to this that the oil cooler is leaking out oil! YAY AND some one dropped a caustic liquid on my cowl causing the paint to bubble up . The one day I park it on the street! sigh. I swear every time i fix something, new thing breaks. The cowl being fucked up put me in a sour mood. Im going to pay to get the fender repainted and now the cowl is going to need to be touched up and im not sure they can even color match my freggin car UGHHHH. I need a job =( Stupid law school

Edid a new oil cooler is 800USD , used is 400-500$ . It's not leaking from the lines, it's leaking on the opposite side. FML

Don't think trailing ignition and oil/dowel pin leak are related, sure are having your share of bad luck with wrong place wrong time
