Question Coil Location

Help! I have an 84 RX7 with a 12a powerplant. Which coil is the one closest to the headlamp? Leading or Trailing?

Thanks in advance

Its trailing on a 1980. I believe that's true throughout the 12As, and possibly all 1st gens.

Do you want to know why it's like this? Look at the coil positions and then look at the distributor cap. You'll notice having trailing in front keeps the high tension wires nice 'n tidy because the trailing position on the cap is further forward than the leading position. If they were switched, the high tension wires would be crossed and probably rub.
