OK, in the haynes, if you look in the 'fault diagnosis' section, it has a 'lack of power' section. One of the possible problems is cluch slippage. It says to put it in top(5th) gear and let out the clutch with the brake applied. If it doesnt stall, then your clutch is slipping. Well, my car almost runs with the clutch out -so i think its slipping.

Can this be fixed with a simple under-the-dash clutch adjustment, or does it need something more?

If she is slipping that bad you must have glazed the flywheel and pressure pretty bad. Doing allot of burnouts?

 

Or it is just worn out......possibility???

well, i guess im gonna try adjusting it. see if it helps at all

 

you'll have to probably replace the grip plate.... you will want to get someone else to do it for you... or if you want, if you pop the hood look on the driver's side of the engine there is a little clutch cylinder, it's being held in with 2 bolts. make sure it's not rusty and can move freely... i guess...

Your clutch probably needs replacing. A friend of mine had a ford escort that had a bad clutch after only 6 months of driving it. He was lucky he didn't wreck the flywheel with the rivets from the clutch disk. It was so bad that he couldn't even make it up a small hill to go over a bridge one day. But I think these are the early signs of a bad clutch, and for the price of one, just replace it. You'll thank yourself in the end. If you replace it now, you'll have another 60000 miles of fun with the car.

^if the slave was bad the master probably isn't doing too well either.

 

yeah, i thought about that. What are the symptoms of a bad master? Are they like my prob?

I'm not really sure. When mine went, it went all at once. One second it was fine the other I was stuck with the clutch disengaged.
