Clutch Problem

Went out to my 85 RX7, deprerssed the clutch and it fell to the floor. Reservoir is full and it the clutch worked when I last used it a month ago. It is the clutch cylinder?

Master Cylinder

How do I get the master cylinder off the firewall? It seemes to be attached with a blind stud.

the studs pass through the firewall. There are 2 12mm nuts you have to remove, along with the pushrod, and the pin holding it in. On the pin there is a c-clip that is a total pain to remove, try not to lose it :P I'd also recommend replacing the clutch slave right now as well. Possibly even the flex line.

I unscrew the rod. Easier for me personally. You'll need to adjust it with new parts anyway.

be ready to bitch and mother**** at it. with my dash out i still had problems getting at the top bolt. I even thought about welding studs on the inside to make the master bolt on from the outside.

I've installed two clutch master cylinders (different RX-7's) in the past year and had two different issues with the studes. On one I over tightened the nut and craked the area that the top stud attaches to. One the second one, the studs where not threaded enough and I had to use some washers so that it would tighten up.

Nut

Ok, we disconnected the rod, but can't get the left not off. Needs a deep socket, but no room for ratchet that way. Wrenches are too thick to fit. All I can think of is cutting the stud some. Any ideas?

Never had a problem with standard hand tool. Maybe a socket not as long but still deep.

Thx

Got it. I had to use a special socket I had from a set to remove rounded nuts. It wasn't that the nut was rounded, but the socket was the right length. It was the master cylinder. Works great. I have a slave too, but we are autocrossing the car both days this weekend and I have to leave my house at 5:30 AM. I will replace the slabve when we get back.

Slave

The RX7 made it thriough most of Satiurday's autocross and then the clutch stoppepde working. Re-bled the system and adjusted the rod, but the clutch was stuck engaged with the flywheel. I got it almost home by being push started and slamming it into gear at the right speeds. but just short of home, the cluthc rerleased and now will not engage the flywheel. It looks like the slave cylinder is moving. I am replacing it tonight anyway (since I already had a new one), but I can't ghet iit out because the oil cooler line and a module attached to the rats nest of hoses and wires is in the way. What is that module and how does it come off the bracket? I fear moving th eentire rats nest ad everythibng is so brittle.

I found one. It is the harness with all the wires and vacuume line which sits on the drivers' side of the engine.
