Clutch pedal has a mouse under it.

Did a search, found nothing, who has got a long-lasting solution to a squeaky clutch pedal? The plastic bushing for it has been history for some time and shots of WD-40, dry graphite, synthetic gel lube, M-12 and synthetic caliper grease have all lasted only about a year or so. Better yet, is there a source to get the bushing?

If someone is able to send me the bushing, (I don't feel like messing with my pedal right now) I may be able to find something at work (Mack Trucks) that is close.

Must be a S3 issue. I have never had this problem with my 80, or my 83. Now I have a 85 with the same squeak. I used white lithium grease. I don't know how long it will last, but I have only had this 85 SE for a couple of weeks.

I found mine was the pivot bushings, couldnt find them anywhere, so I took some gra-foil tape, like heavy duty thread connection tape with a graphite coating, wrapped it up tight and jammed them back in there. Did it like 4 years ago and hasnt squeaked yet. That was back when I was new at this and before I learned picture document EVERYTHING, for just this scenario.

Argh....I had the remnants of the one that fell out when it finally wore out and I threw it away. I'll dig in my "rx7 misc" box and see if I can get another bad one for you to inspect.

lol...I have the reverse situation. The '84 is fine but the '83 has the hidden mouse. Go figure.

If it's thin, it doesn't seem to last more than a couple of months.

That's worth investigating. Do you have a brand name?

I got the stuff from work, I work in the oil refinery inspection business, but the people fabricating the the piping I inspected had a roll laying around, and I ....acquired it.

Brand name was GRAFOIL, look for the tape, the make hard gaskets and what not, but this is for threaded connection applications.

Found a small part on a link, but at work and will look into purchasing. Like I said its industry and can be hard to find.

GRAFOIL® Tapes
• Adhesive-backed crinkled and flat tapes are available
• Allow easy fabrication of custom gaskets in the field
• Ideal for use as a thread sealant in pipe joints
• Available in several Standard Industrial Grades, as well as Premium Grades for Nuclear and Critical Industrial Applications

Does the GRAFOIL go on the head of the cat, the leash or the tail of the cat?

Still waiting for that GRAFOIL lead! Still can't find the other bad bushing! Stopped driving the '83 and now I'm in the '84 but that's not a good solution!

I found that mine was just a slightly loose clutch master cylinder. The top nut was loose from when I installed it durring the conversion to manual. Tightened it up and the noise went away.

I'll have to check that nut when I get up in there...definitely not something you'd think would work loose just from driving but I've seen stranger things.

Can order it there, Grafoil tape, it has alot of applications, for all threaded connections. Just a gasket type material that handles well under pressure and heat

I've never seen or worked on the plastic bushing in the clutch pedal assembly but if I am picturing this right, my suggestion would be to go to a hobby store and get a sealed ball bearing and press it into the hole where the bushing goes.

Perhaps a 5/16" I.D x 1/2" O.D x 5/32 thickness bearing from a hobby store for $5 and a 1/2 inch drill bit to bore the hole. I believe skateboard bearings with a 5/16" O.D. might work.

Here is a picture of my friends squeaky pedal fix in his MR2

Just another idea to try out. Hope this you find a permanent fix for that rodent problem under your clutch pedal!

Found that grafoil tape here in Montana at a refinery I am working at.
Got a place, part number, and what the **** looks like.

It is used as a gasket material. You wrap it around the gasket for a greater seal. It is coated with the graphite coating as you can see. Withstands temps up to 600 degrees and up 800 psi. anywho, I cut a small piece and wrapped it around the plastic part for the pedal and jammed it back it.

I do like the idea of a bearing though Pretty cool, but this was my ghetto fix for what I had on hand at the time.

Where do you spray it? On the spring, or the rod that pushes in the clutch master cylinder?
