Clutch Install

So I am converting my Auto into a Standard. I am using a Lightweight steel flywheel. When I got it (used) there were no bolts with it. I went down to the local hardware store and got some suspension grade bolts that fit the flywheel and are the same size as the stock ones. I am using a 86 clutch and pressure plate along with that transmission.

When I bolted the pressure plate onto the transmission, it took a good bit of force. I got the bolts in all the way, and now the fingers are almost flat across. There doens't seem like much room for it to move. I went ahead and bolted everything up. Now the clutch petal doesn't seem to have any pressure untill I am almost to the floor.

Did I do something wrong when I put in the clutch? Something definatly doesn't seem right.

Dan certain models of flywheels require a slightly longer engaement rod in the slave cyclinder. I have come across this problem before myself when dealing with a friends car. I am not sure what brand his flywheel was though, as it was used with no manufactures markings. we just put a longer rod in the slave cyclinder and it worked fine.

best bet is to experiment a little with the length to find the right size.

you don't want to know what we used ;)

We used a piece of rebar thta we cut to different lengths and tested till we got the right length, then I told him to go and get a hardend bolt and cut to length to replace but he never did (I was worred about it mushrooming out after a while)

I was thinking about using a bolt, but didn't know if anyone made something like that.

Thanks for the help once again.
