clutch or fuel filter or something else?

whats up ladies and gentlemen I was wondering if anyone could help me here if you have any experience I have a 79 rx7 and I am chugging and backfiring like no ones business, to me it feels like it is the clutch, but anyways, when trying to excelerate from a stop my car revs like hell and then finally catches. All in all I think that it is the clutch, but it kinda seems like a fuel system problem too. Any ideas?

a good way to test to see if its the clutch is..... going about 30-40 mph, shift to 5th and accelerate fairly hard. If it slips, then chances are its the clutch.

my favorite way to test a clutch is to rev the motor to 4500 Rpm and dump the clutch. If it revs and dosent go anywere, its time for a new clutch.
