clutch fan
yeah i know replace it. i'm getting there. i was wondering how i check the clutch (i'm pretty sure its stuck) and how to fix it if it is. could this also over rev stuff like the alt?
By "stuck" what do you mean?
Can you turn the fan by hand without the belt moving?
When you spin it by hand does it feel like you're turning it thru a bowl of oatmeal? If so, your fan clutch is probably fine. Does the temp guage climb when you're at idle for a time? If so, your fan clutch is not working correctly.
A new fan clutch from the auto-supply house can run you from $140 to $200, depending... When mine went bad I took a good one off a 2nd gen, drilled the mounting holes out to fit, and bolted it on. It's really quite a bit larger than the original, but functions really great. Makes a great "Whooshing" sound when revving up...Sounds like a big Turbo, or Supercharger...
