Clunking noise from differential area
ok lets establish that i am a dumbass, I did a burnout in the rain and it was very violent when the tires hooked up, something broke, i am trying to figure out what.
it is either the connection of the drive shaft to the diff. or the diff. itself, the sound it makes while rolling 5-10mph is like ... clack....clack...clunk... I cant see any damage to the U-joints which leads me to believe that it is the diff.
can any of you guys help?
also how fast could i get new diff. gears?

I'll bet you fragged the pinion bearing...for an SA, you need the pumpkin rear from a 78 to 82 car...some early '83 will also work, but there is definitely a transition to the big driveshaft mounting flange somewhere in that year which I found out the hard way...

I cant find anything, the closest thing that i have found is a complete rear end on ebay for $350 shipped, none of the junck yards around me have RX-7s or miatas. I also cant get strait answers on weather differential assymblies from other years or miatas will directily interchange.

The straight answer on interchangeability is in this "tech" section...use the search engine and just type "Miata" or "differential swap" and then start sifting through the threads...I remember one from last year when I had to go pumpkin hunting and wanted to know what options I had for the '84...pele is an excellent person to PM on this question if you find investigatory research too daunting...

interchangeability.
www.mazdatrix.com also has this info.
The info as Mar3 has stated is also on our forum.
Now quit stating excuses why you can't figure it out and get that damn car back on the road.
