Cloudy trans oil?

Hi -

A couple of days ago I suddenly lost my clutch slave but amazingly I was only a block or so from a mazda dealer. Not a big deal, since I bought this car a couple of months ago and I wanted to bleed and change the clutch fluids anyhow. While It was in the shop I had them change the transmission oil. The guy tells me they had to flush it twice because it was cloudy "like it had water in it". What's up with that?

I have an '85 GLS with 50,000 Km on it, bone stock, all original. Ran perfect and shifted no problem before I lost the clutch pedal. I'm not sure if the tranny oil ever been changed- is cloudy oil just 20 year old rotten oil or have I got another problem?

Thanks!

I will ask him - havn't picked it up yet. I just figured the guys here have more experience with the older cars and a second opinion never hurts.

probably just the break in metal from the trans gears and synchros contaminating the fluid. not to worry though, this is normal. the metal particals with cloud up teh tran oil in a hurry.

Agreed with the fine metal particles. If it was moisture, the tranny lube would be foamy. Since the car only has 50 k km, this may have been the first fluid change ever so the lube would contain every wear particle since day one.
