close ratio tranny

well this is what I've read and been told so what i want to know is this true?
79-82 mazda 626 rwd transmissions have close ratio gears
and they will bolt into an rx7 (mine is a 84 gsl) with swapping the tailhousing
and the bellhousing for the ones out of the rx7 and using the center section from the 626. I think this would wake up my car alot at the cost of higher speeds which would be fine for me but before i go ahead and do this I want to know is this true?

this was a thread that was running around here a few weeks back it could help you out. on the second page it tell you that you need to change the tail housing and you should be good. check it out.

the 626 gear set will need to rev higher to get off the mark and i think the input shaft is a fly **** too long, they arnt as strong as a rx7 box from what i've been told, arn't all rx7 boxes interchangeable apart from extension housing and bell housing?
