Clock stays on in GSL-SE

I have an '85 GSL-SE. The clock stays on all the time. The LEDs are bright and keep the correct time. I'm concerned about it running the battery down, but haven't taken the time to check the dark current. Is it normal for it to stay lit up with the key out of the ignition?

It's supoposed to stay on. LED's are very very low voltage.

Its normal for the clock to stay on. It wont run your battery down either, unless maybe you let it sit for weeks or something. Ive let mine sit for 2 weeks or so and it started up fine.

Well I knew it couldn't use much power at all, but it worries me as the car may be sitting as long as 2 to 3 weeks at a time. Glad to hear that yours stay on also though. Thanks for the replys.

This was my favourite feature of the LCD clock in my GSl-SE. If you were standing outside of it and wanted to know the time you just peaked inside.
LCD screens use next to nothing power wise. I mean, if your solar calculator can do it, then the clock is nothing.

the clock probably uses less power than the self discharge of the battery, in the sc summer for sure.

LCD or LED?

there is no factory LED on an SE. The black/grey LCD should stay on all of the time... Think how long a watch battery lasts.. like 2 years. I don't think it's gonna kill your car battery anytime soon staying on

There is a small regular bulb behind the clock that lights up when you turn on the parking lights. That's about it.

I had a watch battery last for 10 years. Doesn't the GSL-SE clock have LED backlighting? Nah, it's probably just a light bulb.
