clearcoat chipping off

clearcoat chipping off

hi
i was washing my car and i noticed that what looks like the clearcoat is chipping off...is that normal?
is there anything i can do other than get it repainted?

sounds to me like its just wear you could expect from a car that is at least 17 years old. Mine has the same problem, whole car looks great, like it was just painted, except for the top 3" of the fenders and the hood. Most likely sun damage. If the paint itself looks good, go to a body shop and see what the chances are of you being able to just get a new clearcoat w/o paint, but it will be expensive.

mine has spots were the clearcoat just vanished, followed by paint, so primer is next. anyway, i would just wax it up and wait until it gets bad enough to warrant a new paint job.
