Looks nice Donna, you did a good job. But what is this fascination with clear tailights? I mean I just dont understand? Is this one of those things where we strive to be different?

The point would be to get the REFLECTORS out of there for a more cleaner look methinks. 1st gens that are red do not look good with clear rear lights! I'm trying to make it look more like a third gen. Now i gotta find a way to make the bulbs shine like a 3rd gens (or 2nd gens).

Hell I may just forgo this whole procedure.

At Wal-mart, toy section, model car aisle...there is a Testor's paint for "model window tint" It's like $1.98 and works great. It takes a couple coats to start showing but then it works great. It will tint the lenses but light still shines through great. I tinted the sidemarkers on my black 85 when I had it and it really streamlined the look with the all black. I also set cups on the red taillight lenses and sprayed around them, leaving a tinted area with red circles, giving them a pseudo FD taillight look.
good luck

Might be easier to use window tint or even bribe an eyeglass store to dip them in the UV/sunglass tint bath for 2 minutes or so, Testors semiopaque model paint doesn't go on very evenly, even when airbrushed, and you might end up with 'streaks' that'll make your careful mod look ghetto.

A nice even window tint or dye on the other hand would look more factory.

Window tint won't stick to plastic too well.

I forgot to mention that the model tint paint is in a can and sprays on. It doesn't use a brush, ergo it goes on smooth like normal.

I got one even better for you guys. It's a spray on that is specifically made for tinting tailights etc etc...

I used it to tint the taillights on my truck, and they turned out great. I used about 3-4 coats of the "night shades" paint, then a real fine sandpaper used for models, then a few coats of clearcoat. Came out real nice.

here are a couple finished pictures.
