Exclamation Chrome or black paint? Suggestions?

Why in the hell did Mazda paint the chrome black on the sides of the windshield? (and wherever else they did it?) No, that's just a rhetorical question..... the real question is how can I get the black paint off without messing up the chrome--OR-- should I scuff it, and re-paint it black? What do you guy's think?

I'm almost ready for the repaint stage of body working myself and am faced with the same situation. I was planning on the scuff/repaint method, but am interested in other's input as well.

A car I owned many years ago had all the aluminum trim 'amodized' black. Very, very tough and quite sharp. If my alum pieces start to fade or scratch, I think that's the way I would go.

Chrome can't be anodized. I'd scuff it and paint it, I don't like chrome.

I sold an '82 rx7 a while back, and me and my dad painted the car, i went ahead and scuffed up and painted those parts black, and i have to say, it looked pretty good. Make sure that you use gloss paint though. I'm also kind of curious what the chrome would look like, so if you go the way of making it chrome again, post some pics plz .

actually, I was just thinking about it... I think I'm gonna go scuff and WHITE paint like the rest of the car....

take off the black moulding and strips off the bumpers and go as white on the car as possible.... black tint though, of course.

That sounds cool, I've seen that in red and it looked great. But you've got to do the hatch hinges, the mirrors, the rubber moldings and the emblems to really complete the job!

Hmmmm, is it going to match the white on your car? Becuase, in my opinion, you either have to match it exact or go to the other end of the spectrum to make the car look good. But, like i said, that is my opinion. Also, i definately agree with painting all the other odds 'n ends the same color. :

I sandblasted my A-Pillar exterior trim and the windshield header pieces. It's a satin finish; not chrome and I've left it like that since 1995. It looks the same as if I had did it just yesterday. I was considering having it painted, but I like the look of the sandblasted-satin finish enough to leave it!
