Chris' Projects
I haven't had time to touch my own cars in months, but thanks to a lull in customer projects (or customers injuring themselves and giving me more time to work on their cars...) I started dragging my old hulks around so I can throw 'em in the resto shop and begin work. Progress will probably be slow, but I've got a couple cars that are easy and should be done pretty soon.
We'll start with an '85 GSL I got at the salvage auction. It was a donation car, from the gulf coast of Texas, and the auction said it was a non-running car. It was delivered in the morning, and my dad had it running before it was dark.

Had some rust behind the hatch (and in the channel) and surface rust everywhere. Got it fixed up enough to do a little priming, but since it would need at least 2 coats I didn't worry about doing the whole thing. Need to do a little redleading, along with a little more sanding, but it's pretty close to done. After I paint a customers Miata I'll get back to work on this thing. Color will be Porsche silver, pretty close to the stock color only better looking. It's pricey stuff, too, about $200 in just the paint. But the finished product is worth it!
Next up is a car I've had for a while. Originally bought it before I moved, it was just a few blocks from my house in a little apartment compex. The car had been there for 5+ years, and the last year or so it sat in the same place, but got washed every few weeks. One day driving by, saw a for sale sign on it, hooked a u-turn and wrote down the number. The apt. manager was selling it for the gal that owned it, and he knew a little about cars and had worked on it. Wouldn't run (flooded down), had a little body damage, $200. It's a GSL, 84 or 85 (can't remember) so we jumped all over that one. Drug it to the old house, worked on it a little while, before discovering it had a damn EFI pump on it. Found that out when we hooked up our fuel pressure gauge, and the damn thing bent the needle! Put a 12A pump on it, then found out the tank was full of gunk. Long story short, had the car running off a gas can sitting where the passenger seat was, when a nut or bolt got dropped down the carb, seizing the damn thing. Fortunately it wasn't running, but the engine has probably gotta be pulled and taken apart to get it out.

Finally, a few pictures of some of the other cars. This is only the top of the iceberg, there's around 15 first gens on the property, not all of them ours.

The last picture above is the 3rd car I'll be working on for the moment. It was one of the first RX7's my dad purchased way back in the day, and it's always been dubbed the Parts Car. It's resto-mod will retain that name and general spirit, with a few Miata pieces thrown (or welded... ) on, and some good old redneck ingenuity for good measure. There may also be a 13B in it's engine bay, we'll see.
I'll probably create new threads for the cars and their progress later, but figured I'd toss 'em all in this one for the time being. And for those that hate people with large collections of cars, only 3 or 4 were actually sought out the rest were saved from certain death or on the market for a long time.

All I can say is only in Texas. My property looked liked kinda like that when I lived in TX. I had 2 FB's, 2 Pintos, 3 jetskis. 2 boats, 2 other cars, a Travel trailer, couple dogs and cats, and best of all a 60x80 shop to hold the parts! Oh and a tank!

Oh yeah, the official number is 16 if you count the FC.
Then there'll be another FB here tomorrow.
