Choke/ carb masters

I have run a couple of searches on this problem and have come up with nothing. I have an '85 12a all with a header, no cats and I cut my secondary spring in half. When i start my car on a cold morning I need to choke it to keep it running. My problem is with how much choke I give it. If I give it any more than just enough choke to keep it running it misses bad. It runs at about 1200 RPMs with the choke barely on... any more and it sounds like I am staging for a drag race with a rev limiter. I can take the air cleaner lid off and push the choke flap open just a bit and it will smooth out with excessive choke on. Any clues or ideas how to adjust the carb accordingly or whats wrong?

Nevermind on this one. I tried the idea that Mar3 had. He said in another thread to pull the rod that connects to the choke plate and stretch (bend) it a little bit. I did this repeatedly untill the choke worked well up to the 2200 rpm range. Tomorrow morning will be the test.

If that doesnt work, let us know. When you rev the engine, the choke should open on its own a bit so as not to starve the engine. If its not, you gotta fix that.
