Muscle cars are what I started off on and we used to use glasspacks all the time in the 70's. They were ok for about the first 6 months then they would blow out. Most of the time I would just bolt them on the end of my headers on my 57 Chevy.

Flowmasters are a good muffler but even the muffler shops now are leaning towards the magna flows for the muscle cars. We also used to use the Chrysler Hemi mufflers. They were very mellow sounding and at full throttle were very quiet.

Not that this will help you or anything, but on my FC, I've got a Dynomax Turbosport (?) catback and it's totally freeflowing with 2" pipes (but totally freeflowing (louder than RB)), the state Trooper that I installed it for says it is still too loud and now I'm installing some Dynomax bullet race mufflers, on top of it all.

IVe had on my V-Force muffler for quiet a while now, maybe a year and i havent noticed any change in soud or any burning out of the sort. IT wasnt cheap tho, i paid 175 with a 25% discount. I remind you that this muffler didnt come with tips, just straight through 2 3/4" single inlet, dual outlet. Good muffler tho, kinda loud.

I'd go magnaflow....they have a good deep sound while idling yet while full power it sounds awesome. Plus if you get the polished stainless it looks great and fits well. I have the 5" x 8" Oval Street Series with dual tip and it looks great. It was about $200 installed. Here's a short clip and some pics:

I've Run The Dynomax For About Eight Years, Has Always Been Kind Of Loud... But Not As Loud As The Flowmaster40 That I Put On First!!! That Thing Hurt My Head, It Was So Loud!!!! Btw I Also Use A Glass Pack As A Silencer After A Random Technology Cat... Believe It Or Not It Maybe Empty But It Has A Heavier Wall Construction Than The Piping Does And It Helps It To Not Ring So Bad.... Regular Exhaust Piping Is Thin Wall And The Exhaust Pulse From The Rotary Makes Thin Wall Pipes Ring... The Factory Piping Is Heavy Wall Construction.... That Is Why Stock Pipes Sound Good, And Aftermarket Is Always Louder (except Racing Beat)... Racing Beat Is The Bomb!$!$!lol

I have a cherry bomb on my '85 with straight pipe... its insanely loud, so I wouldnt recommend it for street driving unless you want noise pollution tickets

Also, everyone makes this big push for stainless steel - why does racingbeat sell mild steel pipe?
