Cherry Bomb Exhaust
has anyone ever put cherry bomb exhaust on any rotaries? if so how did it turn out? do you have pic? how did it sound?
It doesn't work and yes it has been tried many times over. Those type of mufflers even blow out on regular piston engine after 6 months.
hum i guess ill keep looking then. I'm just looking for something a little different is pace setter OK?
NO. Lol. Pace setter is shit, pardon the language. Only RB, Magnaflow, and Borla can really hang with the heat.
As Jeezus said, those are the only mufflers what will withstand the heat over a long period of time, and we still don't know how long Magnaflow and Borla will last as nobody has had them long enough. I think its about 4 years now that the first maganflow was used, and AFAIK its still in service. There are 1 or 2 others that will handle the heat, such as Rotaflow (I believe thats the name) or bike mufflers. Rotaflow is out of Austrailia though and good luck getting one.
very good to know thanks. i guess thats because all the slight back fires the cars make. ill look in to something. but, do we have to use the racing beat headers or is there something else?
Its not only the backfires that kill them, its also the extreme heat of the gases under normal conditions. A rotaries exhaust gasses can reach 1200* or more.
i got a greddy from a honda laying around im gonna try that and ill let you know
I don't know what kinda packing Greddy uses in their mufflers, but I would be willing to bet that its fibreglass, in which case its no better than a cherry bomb.
A muffler with stainless steel wool or high temp ceramic packing is prefered at least for the presilencer
What is it about the consruction of some mufflers that make them explode under the heat? There's always $50 no-name mufflers available in my area, but I'm worried about them exploding and sending burning shrapnel into the schools as I fly through crosswalks at 90mph backwards.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/pts/329141427.html I've thought about buying it so many times it's crazy. |
^ That one is stainless steel, it should be alright. How well it will flow and sound is a different question.
Stainless steel outer shell has nothing to do with the packing. At 50 bucks, it probably has the cheapest packing there is, fiberglass.
buy it!

i heard they melt
well, that really didnt answer the ? but its good... i think side dump mufflers are the best for rotaries tho... rotaflow is the only company that i know of that makes them, only catch is they are based in australia

The only real tried and proven muffler that has shown to last for a very long time that is readily available to us is either The RB prima flow or the stock muffler. Glasspacks are fiberglass packed and are crap. The rest of the mufflers that all are trying have not been around long enough to really know the longevity of them. I wish I could get this much response from everyone when someone posts a real diagnostic question. :-) |
thnx doc.... i was just wondering what glasspack really meant.... i know that flowmasters are the really louder ones in the bunch cause other than rotaries im into muscle cars... thanx for answering my ? tho doc!!!
