Talking Check out my 2GCDFIS w/ MSD set up

Now that the carb issue I had was settled, I finished wiring up the ignition. All wiring was checked, double checked, and tripple checked. Gotta make sure.

Can't wait to test it in the morning. Too late to take it out now.

Hmm? I liked the direct fire with just the 2nd gen coil. Gonna see how I like this set up. I ordered another blaster coil to see if I like it without the 2nd gen coil and running 3 coils. Then I will try the transistor trick when they get done. Should be interesting.

Definitly interested in your results. I'm ordering two msd 6al boxes next week, you planning on doing anything with the trailing ignition?

Not yet atleast. Don't know if it's even worth it from all the talk about it. I'm assuming you will be using the second box for trailing huh? I'd like to know your results.

Why only two spark plug wires on your distributor?

Kim;
You really scored when you bought this 1st Gen!
I plan on doing this Ignition Set-up also. So keep us posted on this.

Non MSD Related question for ya?
Do you happen to know where the Electric Fan comes from?
Thanks
Steve

I love your engines, they are so clean. I already have about 20 hours into cleaning the parts for mine and am barely past the halfway point. How did you get your carb so clean though? I will be using a nikki with SA manifold until I get the EFI setup.

Steve,
The RX-7 runs great. It doesn't sound like a first gen anymore. It starts better and idles smooth. I also advanced the timing. The fan is from a Taurus v6. fits like stock and works perfect.

BlastinSideways12A, the carb was rebuilt by Sterling, that's why it looks so clean. He does a great job.

Kim,

I'm going to order two boxes because I was told that to use the rev limiter feature, I'll need to run a limiter on both sides. We (my codriver and I) just moved the battery to the passenger compartment today, and i'm going to be ordering the two boxes this week. I'm planning on mounting it right where the battery use to be, I'll keep you posted...

Alvin

i doubt it's going to be much better then the 2gstock coil though. they're both doing the same darn thing. as ong as you hooked it up correctly. Did you talk to Jeff20b as I suggested? And your wasting energy having anything hooked up to that second coil over there...

Yes I am lazy. Hahaha, nahh not really. Incase my 2nd gen coil fails I can look up this thread and the part number you provided fast, then buy it locally. I guess that is a lazy type of way to do it, but gives me a reason to be here.

That hook up on the coil is temporarily, I yet have to clean up the wiring. I will be running the switched 12v and the white wire from the MSD inside the cabin.

Yes it was confirmed that this hook up is right with the 2nd gen ignitor and resistor removed. Easy as pie:
