So do you have the filter right out front in the grill?

Very resourceful. How are you holding it down? Feel like sending it to me for some flow testing?

Great job! That's really great...I, too, applaud your resourcefulness. I like anything like that where someone looks for a recycleable part.

...lemme guess...you like "Junkyard Wars", too, like me.

When I was in college in Tuscon Arizona in 1972, I was fortunate to know and party with an older gentleman named Nathan who, it was claimed, held the patent for the pressurized cabin from work he did with Lockhead, which subsequently screwed him. Nathan drove around in a modifed VW bug that weighed less than 1000 pounds - in his retirement he liked to travel around the world and he preferred to take his car with him. To get the weight reduction, he replaced all the body sheet metal with aircraft aluminum, sat on the floor with a few cusions for a seat and replaced all the hydrolics with cables. Neatest of all was the carburator, which had been replaced with an aluminum coffee pot. I have no idea how this worked, I had a bug at the time but my mechanical knowledge was limited to changing the oil (the first time I did this, slightly enebriated, I neglected to put the drain plug back in before adding all the oil I had purchased for the job. But hey, I was 18 and more interested in girls than cars. Actually, now that I think about it, this is still true, but the gap has closed somewhat). Anyway, Trevor, your ingenuity reminds me of Nathan's genius, thanks for the tip and please forward instructions!

Ray

ok, i got 8 pics . Ill podt more if u want them. i think the car runs better, it definately sounds better, i plumbed a vac gauge onto tube nippl 6 '' from bonnet, to check for restriction, almost impeceptible needle move ment , less than 1.5''hg at WOT . so i pucned a 3/16 hole in stock filter housing lid rite to the carb side of filter, at WOT it was almost 3''hg. proof in pudding. i routed pipe through radiator ducting at upper corner pass, side. elbow then filter. see for urself, trev

Ahhhh thank you. Numbers. Yes the stock housing is very restrictive. Look at my airbox post. 1.5" of hg as your gauge says is still very restrictive. Thats equal to 20 or so inches of water column. No offense, but my mod flows the same as no filter/airbox at all.

thats awesome carl, my only deal was the 6.00 dollar issue, went out and pulle the filter off the end of pipe and run it again, tthe needle twitched once at the application of wot , then settled back to the peg, seems to me a better flowing filter would be required, any suggs?

Well definately better than stock, as youve shown. My numbers come from dry flowbench testing so theres no variables. Even 1.5"hg is wayyyyyyyy too high a restriction IMHO. Thats 20.3" water.
