Charging System ?

I have a Gsl-se with t2 motor and microtech. I relocated my battery to the trunk for IC piping. There is a lot of custom wiring due to the setup and I did it all myself as I am fairly inclined electronically. The problem is the battery is draining overnight. It will barely turn over in the morning. The problem occurred after I had the car painted. I figured some of lights and sensors being removed may have been a factor. My passenger window will only open if you jiggle the wiring harness to connect some loose conductor. This also happened after painting and reassembly. Now I am not 100 percent sure it was not like this before paint as the car was still a "build" and did not start and run often before tuning and such. The battery is relatively new and holds a charge if not in the car. I removed all the fuses inside the car hoping that would let the battery hold a charge and insert them one by one to find the culprit. I don't know if they even draw current while the ignition is not on. I guess I will now move onto the fusible links. Another thing is my fb alternator reads only 13 volts on my microtech screen and my fc alternator only reads 13.5 tops. I was thinking something in the actual charging system was sucking power. They do read 14+ volts when the battery is fully charged for the first 30 mins of driving.

Any tricks, tests, or ideas to find out my problem?

Is the engine and/or alt from an S5 T2? Did it do this before the battery relocation?

It was fine for a while after the battery location. I just included everything that was done to the car but I don't really think that is the problem...it is also an s5 alt. I think my fb alt might be dead because you have to rev it to get it to go higher than 12v. I thought I wired the s5 up to the harness correctly but I might have the two wires crossed for the voltage regulator. When the s5 alt is in the warning lights do not come on when the motor is off and the ign is in the on position, however they do work as my coolant light came on when my coolant was low and my brake light warning light came on before I connected my lights. If those wires were mismatched wouldn't I see irregular voltages (too high?)? Also if they were mismatched would that cause the drain?? thanks

Okay. That helps. It is probably the S5 alt not wired properly. There is a slight change from the FB wiring that you need to do. If you don't do it correctly, the alt will drain the battery when the car is off (basically it thinks that the battery is dead and tries to charge it at its fastest rate, but can't since it isn't turning). I have also read about people killing their alt by wiring it incorrectly.

Check out:

If it is wired correctly, then have the alt tested. It could be bad and cause the drain. The other possibility (besides the battery maybe not being able to hold a charge) would be a partial short somewhere (enough to drain, but not enough to blow fuses, melt wires, etc.).

So check wiring, have alt and battery tested, and then start searching for shorts.

Good luck.

hook a test light in line with the battery. disconnect the negative batt terminal and use the test light to complete the circuit. if it lights up, there is a drain on the battery. start pulling fuses until the light goes out. but you might try to disconnect the alt first and see if the light goes out.
