Changed Spark Plugs

Well since i bought the car (85 GSL) i never bothered to change the spark plugs. i've only put 2,800 mi on myself. Turns out the previous owner had the same plugs in for the last 67,000 miles.... so yea i changed them out. Went with NGK cost me $28 for 4.

The car is a world of difference. The response, even in the high rpm ranges is amazing, my acceleration went up,and (hopefully) it should increase my gas mileage.

Right after I bought my seven I had to call a local autozone or something to the likes of it to order new spark plugs. I told them NGK's, and when they called me back to tell me they had come in, I went to pick them up only to find out they had ordered me Autolites instead. I ended up having to buy the NGK's and the autolites because of their guidelines on ordering things stated that I had to buy them even though they messed up the order.

You got scammed man, no way I'd be paying for plugs I dont want especially when they screwed up, their policy is their problem not yours. Next time you go there return those plugs because they're useless on your car, if they refuse call the head office, that's BS. I'd also consider a different store, my local Autozone never pull that ***** on me.

I like Nippon Denso plugs better than NGK, just a preference, but chnage them often.

While most modernday plugs can last 100k, ours don't. Change them at least every 15k, your engine and wallet will appreciate you for it.

[rant on]

Did you ask nicely that they use lube while they rape you?

Maybe the Better Business Bureau would like to know about this?
Maybe the store manager should know about this?
Maybe the Autozone head office should know about this?

Hope you're all healed up before you order again!

[rant off]

Sorry, this sort of thing really gets to me

hey okay this is probably gonna be a pretty huge newbie question that and its not meant to jack your thread but how hard was it to change them out? only plugs ive changed were like 3 years ago in high school on a 4 banger, did you need a special socket? also what type of nkg's did you use? the different numbers confuse the hell out of me.....thanks

It wasn't an autozone. It has been a couple years, I can't even remember the name of it. They went out of business.

Actually it was pretty easy, i had to use a long 21mm socket wrench to take them out (although there is probably one in the english system that will fit) Hmm this was my second time changing spark plugs ever, first for this engine, and surprisingly there was no difficulty. The only problem you tend to encounter is the lack of room for the wrench so you get about 1/16th of a turn. But other than that i fingertightened them, and used a wratchet till it was snug.

Edit: for my stock 85 GSL i used NGK - BR8EQ-14 those are the ones that Mazda and the majority of the forum members agree upon for this model.

As said above stay away from autolites.
