between the two choices I'd like the fixed lights better by far as they'd be more useful

but I kinda like my big ol skool pop-ups

Thanks, 1st7... My buddy wants to make CF hoods with a vent in 'em but we don't want to duplicate efforts by other forum members.

Re: CF headlights

The ones on the right look awsome... count me in if you make them...

I was talking to a buddy today who has 20 yards of carbon fibre and we were discussing making small, relatively inexpensive CF accent pieces (as in not hoods, those are huge and will cost $650 or so if we made 'em)

We concluded that perhaps CF headlamp covers would look cool, clearcoated to show off the distinctive CF pattern.

Question is, what would you rather have: a set of CF covers with a NACA duct on the right side, or a set of fixed headlamps (2 per side) with CF mouldings filling in the headlamp area?

Hey Manntis,

How about if you work on the hood with the vents you like....I will do the stock cf hood and maybe the turbo 2 cf hood? I am planning on having the stock cf hood done in about 2 weeks. I think I have a turbo 2 cowel hook up for making a "plug". I also am going to make the stock headlight lids and valance. If you are not interested in the vented version of the valance....I can make it???

Whatcha think?

I think the more people making them, the more chance I have of getting one...I just want a stock CF hood, or a T2 hood in either CF or fiberglass, or those headlight pods in either CF or fibergalss...But I also want a vented valance (is that right? The piece betweenthe headlights?)...So if you guys could work on those, it would be awesome for me . If I have money at the right time, I promise Ill buy stuff from y'all .

true and not true.. on the miata kit is was a pain in the *** to get them to work right... but when you make a kit from the ground up you get to play with all the ****... my kit uses a stock linkage arm and a pivot arm on the light kit... it took me and a friend 4 weeks to get this dam thing to work just right... trial and error but alls good now.
the only prob. i forsee with the non popup is the poor pattern form the lights hitting th vallance and or the sides of the buckets... but it dose look cool with the light s off

Looks like the two of us are working on it....it just takes time working it all out, making sure it all fits right. I have made 3 hoods now just trying to get the thickness just right! I now have the stock fiberglass hood perfected if anyone wants one...$250 plus shipping, I will crate it at my cost.

Cool! does this mean your kit is ready to ship, and if so how much? I can carry it in my catalogue if you like.

Yes and no. You'll notice I selected a pod design that is farther forward than most. The lower corners shielded by the fenders fall mostly outside the cone of luminescence in this design. There is some light blocked by the valence immediately in front of the lights by the front of the pod, but that light isn't seen as it typically falls down along the bumper (which is blocked from the driver's view by the hood of the car)

Believe me, I take the function of safety devices over looks any day.

no the kits arent ready to ship..... 2 reasons time and money..... ok a little more detail on that.... time... i have got it all worked out and a working kit but im working my company and in the extra time i have do the kits.... money.. i will make up a few kits and then getthe $$ for them then order the lights for them..... i wont have the kits sitting around ..... theres not a large enuff market to go out and make 500 kits and 10k$ in lights to sit and gather dust.. i figure a 2 week wait from when i getthe $$ to when the kit ships. and YES I WILL POST IT ON THE FORUMS WHEN THEY ARE READY

Once I get my job I will buy a CF one from you for sure . My computer was down for a few days, and one of them was when you made that post about the 2nd hood. It looks AWESOME!! If the CF ones looks as good as that, I CANT WAIT to get mine . I think hood clips would be just fine as well, they add a cool "racecar" look I like . Anyway, keep us updated on your EXCELLENT work .

~T.J.

PS - I assume that these will be "made to order"? As in, you perfect the different styles you plan on making, and then offer those styles. Then, when someone pays you, you make one of whichever they want? Kinda like that? Cause I dont wanna get jipped out by not having money at the right time and you only making, say 50 hoods, and everyone buying them before I get money . Does that make sense?

CAn't speak for 1st7, but mine will be made to order. Unlike metalcrafting, hand-layup is just as easy in onesies as in quantity.

I am going to try to keep a few of each hood made(headlight lids and valances also). My problem is that when I get buisy it may be a couple weeks before I can get to make a hood. Sssooooo since I have the space, I am going to keep 2-3 of each crated and ready to ship.

Manntis is right though, you can lay one up in an evening.
