Catalytic converters
Hi,
I was just wondering if there is anything wrong with using universal cats on a 7?
I'm a welder, so installation wouldn't be a problem.

Well let me say that I have been thru the smog process in Northern California with my Rx-7 quite a few times. Although a universal will pass the tail pipe test, the Rx-7 spec sheet will call out how many converters you model is suppost to have. For example a 1983 Rx-7 is a 2-stage converter set up, so in order to pass the visual you need your converter to look like its a 2 stage converter. In 84-85 it was a 3 stage converter, so you will need the look of 3 converters to pass the visual.
So when they slid the mirror under the car, just make sure all the exhaust shielding is in place. Also choose a shop that does no have a hoist.
Good luck.
