Carter P74021 fuel pump
Carter P74021 fuel pump
I have a Carter P74021 inline fuel pump that is 3.5-5 psi. I have read all the fuel pump FPR upgrades and was wondering if the use of this low flow pump would negate the use of the FPR or is the Carter 9 psi pump needed for some reason I fail to understand?
I haven't seen that one in particular, but I ran a similar Carter pump without a regulator without issues - aside from the pumps failing every year or so. The carb has an internal regulator that's good up to about 4 PSI. It's always better to run an aftermarket regulator though. I recommend the Holley 1-4PSI.
Many thanks, the holley FPR is on my birthday list and will be here soon. HaHa. I am going to run it in my car. The carter inline I have that a monkey mechanic installed bypassed the original set-up and disregarded a filter all together is flooding the engine with fuel. I can smell gas in the exhaust hardcore!. When I questioned him he said. "I assume it had a stock filter". Considering just looking at it and the mods you would know this car was far from stock. Luckily my step-father gave it to me to save. Will post pics of this "proffesional" mechanics in-line fuel pump instillation.
Many thanks Lizard! I installed the new fuel filter and pump at almost no cost to me. $3 bucks for the filter and the pump i exchanged for the year warranty on carter pump previously installed even money
3 Bucks and a half hour labor for substantial performance enhancement. I believe I have also figured out why these pumps burn out so quick. The only way to mount the unit a majority of the time is horizontal. If you do not have an air tight bled fuel system the pump burns eventually to a dead static airspace in the pump. Thoughts?

Thoughts?mounted on the left rear frame rail, up high almost against the floor but its vertical
and out of harms way if I run over something. See a thread detailing mounting one
