carter fuel pump cutting out

I have a 85 gs with a carter fuel pump and the fuel pump keeps cutting out randomly. I rewired the fuel electrical line from the relay under the dash back. I am currently stuck at a taco bell so any help would be appreciated

Bad wire to the relay or bad relay. Bypass it for now to get home.

You could be picking up junk in your filter as well. Also if the pump is overheating it may shutdown to protect itself.

Ok so I wired my pump directly to the battery and it ran fine and I made it home. So based on that info the stock wiring from the battery to the relay is bad (I did the relay trick with the jump wire so even if my really was bad it shouldn't matter). My question now is how do I wire my pump to work with ignition so it shuts on and off like normal?

Grab a 30/40 amp automotive relay and connect terminal 86 to either coil's neg terminal or any wire that has a 12v with the key on ON position

So I figured out the issue. The pump was over heating and the safety shut off was coming on. I decided to go back to a stock pump...
