Carburetor help.

I figure this section will know best, this isn't Rx-7 related, but it is a carbureted car. Basic questions, one, what is the silver hose from the snorkle of the breather? I'm assuming it's some sort of emissions equiptment. It's rotted off on my car and need to know what to do about it if i'm not running the breather. Secondly, there's a vacuum line and another hose leading to my valve cover. Again, what needs to be done about this if not running the breather, i assume it's as simple as plugging the vacuum line, but i don't even know what needs to be done about the one running to my valve cover... or even the point of it for that matter.

n00bish questions i know, but this is the first time really working on a carbureated piston engine.

that big silver hose is to make hot air from your exhaust manifolds warm up the car quicker....

the hose from the valve cover is the oil breather hose... DONT plug it off... it will make your dipstick pop out or oil pan gasket leak... it will build pressure in the crankcase... get an oil breath cap... or something to let air out, but keep oil in... like an old fuel filter.... plug one side to the hose, the other leave open... make sure its not packed with rust or full of gas though....

anyways, Laterz, Andrew
