Carburator diagrams?

Hey guys!
Am wondering where one could get some Carburator diagrams. I would like to get to know my carburator really well for future reference. I got a Haynes manual but it's not very specific. And I don't know much about carbs. But want to learn.

1981 Mazda RX-7 GSL, 12A engine

I think it has the stock Carburator.

Thanks!

I second the motion!

The biggest thing for me is figuring out what I don't need so I can simplify the thing.

Maybe not what you're looking for, but the rebuild kit I got from autozone had an exploded pic of the carb. Helped me understand things a bit better and made it easier to ask questions of the carb experts. Not much help, though, with questions about what can be removed from the carb and what needs to stay. You can also look at some of sterling's articles at his web site.

i rebuilt 2 stock carbs from an 81 12A. every pin and screw came out to be clean. If you have someone to help you. It is alot easier to rebuild and understand it. The first time i didn't know anything, or where anything went. We didn't even use a diagram, just remembered where it all went. Things that i new he didn't and vise-versa.

slashdawg0010 is right, you do get a diagram with the carb kit. Mine wasen't that good and couldn't go by it. But with other kits, I am sure that they are alot better.

If you buy a carb kit from NAPA you get a diagram with most of the parts. The only thing your on your own on is the emmison crap. It changed yearly so its not all the same.

I rebuilt mine, just remembering where everything with a diagram I made. Do a search on the Nikki carb in the forum. Can't remember who had it, but there was a great pictorial on removing everything you didn't need if you don't need it to pass emissions and if you are removing the rats nest. I even removed my choke and left the high idle linkage, but I see you live in northern IL so you might ought to leave that on. I even removed the shutter valve flap on the intake. It cleans everything up pretty nice. I bead blasted my carb and intake and put a couple of coats of engine clear coat enamel on them. Hopefully this will keep them looking better for a while. It's not that difficult, just pay close attention to where everything goes back. Hope it goes well.

I've been looking for this info, too, but so far haven't had much luck in searching the forum for the answers. I also have the pleasure of previously disassembled linkage parts, so I get to either figure them out or start fresh, so as much info as possible would be helpful. Been looking for someone that had an extra carby laying around but so far nothing. If I can get everything together that I need, I'll take many pics and probably post some sort of guide. Anyone interested in helping just drop me a line.

I thought I recalled a couple posts with pics and everything that looked at what *could* be removed, but I did the search and now can't find the posts. Anyone with links/bookmarks?

I've been looking for a few weeks now, and still haven't found anything useful. Too bad that manual can't be found, as I'm sure it would answer all of my questions.

Um, stupid question. Can y'alls support a brutha with pics to where all four linkages connect? For the life of me, I just can't seem to find one.

Also, my accelerator's limp. I was told this is a linkage problem. This means linkage to the carb, right?

Jay, I dont understand wut you are asking?

The accel cable is supposed to have a little slack, not much. With the pedal all the way down the primaries should be full open. Look with a flashlight to see that your getting WOT.

I'm stupid. What is WOT?

As in, the accelerator goes ALL the way to the floor without getting any, um, grip.

It's literally a useless pedal right now.

WOT=Wide Open Throttle

Sorry, no pics of linkages. Is the throttle cable connected to anything? Can you post pics of what you've got?

I'll be out at my car tomorrow to get some pics of this situation. First, I think it's right. Then, I'm told it's wrong. Fiddle around, think it's right. Realize that there's a linkage unnattached, know it's wrong. lol. I'm a goon!

Ok, I just want to know what the absolute barebones essentials are on this carb, i.e. throttle linkage, accelerator pump, etc. I want as few vacuum components as possible. It's missing many linkage parts, so I'll be coming up with new ways to set it up at this point, but what parts are absolutely required on this thing to make it work? Not so much internal parts, as those are all still intact, but things that bolt/screw on to the carb. I don't care about a choke, I just want simplicity. As few moving parts as possible, as few extra stuff as possible. I'm premixing, so don't need any OMP lines.
