carbon removal

i was reading the thread on the carbon builup and read that there was a way of inserting WATER into the intake manifold and this would cause the carbon builup on the apex seals to come off.is this true because it sounds scary.my engine runs awesome but i have never tryed this. THIS IS WHAT WAS POSTED ON AN ERLIER THREAD.

Hey y'all, I was talking to Rob Golden at Pineapple Racing last weekend and asked about his experience with the ATF treatment. He said that he prefers to use water.
1) works well, steam is very effective at breaking up carbon. Gives a noticable power gain.
2) easier and quicker, just pull a vaccuum hose at the dynamic chamber and pour 2 liters of water in (no kidding) while the car is reved up and down above 4k rpm. Just pour it in as fast as you can without killing the motor.
3) doesn't fowl plugs, O2 sensor, or clog the cats like ATF (actually cleans them).

I gave this a try last weekend and here was my experience:

I pulled a vacuum hose off of the dynamic chamber and placed a fresh hose in it and submerbed that
hose in 1 liter of water. The motor sucked up the water over about 3 minutes or so. I had to give the car gas to keep it running; about 4 k rpm most of the time, but I varied this quite a bit between 2k and 6k rpm. Obviously the car ran rough during the treatment. Towards the end of the treatment I noticed smoke coming from the side of my car near the back wheels and a burning smell. I looked under the car and to my suprise the cat and muffler pipes were glowing orange hot! (it was about 30 minutes before dark) I don't know wtf was going on but it got my adrenaline going! I shut the car off and let things cool down.

After things cooled down I took it for a spin. The car runs better, idles better, and has a bit more power (feels like 10-15 horsies, but this us just a guess). It also has noticeably better response at part-throttle. Feels more torque-y.

has anybody done this and how did it go.
please let me know because i was thinking of trying this to clean up the seals...

It may do something, but to me, pouring water INTO my engine scares the sh@# out of me.. so no.

I did it to my SE, better than ATF, MMO and faster, wont hurt a thing. Find a vacuum line you can remove that wont kill the car (I used an exrta long piece of hose laying around for ease of application) then stick it in a bucket of water (1/2 to a gal). I couldnt do it full boat or it would die. I let it suck some in, catch its breath and do it again until all the water was gone. Noticeable differance.

Premixing 8 - 10 oz per tank of MMO does the same, and without trauma and screwing around.

Well, since water injection is pretty common on high power turbo cars, I know it won't hurt anything. I've also noticed that if you have a slightly burnt head gasket (piston engine...) and coolant leaks into the chamber, the steam from it will clean up the cylinder, so it makes sense that water would do the same thing.

The only tricky part would be regulating the amount of water in there, because flooding the engine with water wouldn't really be good.

You want to make damn sure that you don't water-lock the motor by trying to get too much water in the intake.
Safer to just use Power Foam.

sooooo, how do you do the water treatment exactly? what's this hootin and hollerin about pouring water in the carb?!!!! i don't think i have the marbles to do that. i would like to keep my car running, but being a home mechanic it sparks an intrest....curiousty killed the car. I am thinking about doing it but want to know step by step what to do. anyone?

Read the original post again on how to do but in a nut shell. Hold the RPM's at about 4k then start adding the water, go slow at first and increase until right before the car chokes out (you'll know). I've done it, works great! The heat from the steam uncakes the carbon and blows it out. The risk with ATF and MMO (dont get me wrong about MMO-great stuff) is that when the carbon comes loose it could lock or score your rotor housings. But all in all im sure its the same outcome, but I have done it and will again in the future. Its not a biggy, isnt as messy and doesnt smoke like ATF/MMO. I noticed an increase in performance....
