Carbing a 6 port, and other ?'s

I spent an hour searching the fc forum, I refuse to look any longer.

I have an s4 engine and a dellorto with manifolds on the way. I can see the 6port has 6,000 injectors, I just plug all the bungs? And also make a cover plate for the hole in the top of the center housing?

12a(or se?) front cover and se oil pan to go in my fb right?
12a oil pickup tube or 13b?
Distributor drive gear that's already in s4 motor will work fine right?

Thanks in advance for the help and not telling me to search. lol
Joe

6,000 injectors? am I missing something here?

Use a 12a or GSL-SE distributor. You can use a 12a or GSL-SE front cover. You need a GSL-SE oil pan. You also need racingbeat 12a-13b mount adapter, or slot your own.

The hole in the top of the center housing is for the EGR valve, just make a block off plate, make sure you use a gasket though.

Not sure what you're talking about.

The reason we use a 12A cover (se) is so we can use the front engine mount (second gens use bolts on the sides of the engine). The 12A is 20 mm narrower than the 13B. So, you need an RB engine mount or slot the 12A mount 20 mm.

Oh ya, RB sells a ERG block off plate and gasket, for the hole on top of the engine.

Yea I knew about the different mounts hence the different front cover. glad you mentioned the slotting, I forgot all about that, I would have noticed when the trans bolts wouldn't go in.

Will the fan still work with the 12a rad shroud or do I need to get a se shroud?

Thanks
Joe

12a shroud works fine. IMHO, get the racing beat adapter, and dont slot the mounts. I'd really be concerned with saftey with the mounts slotted.

Theres' no way I'm paying $100 after shipping, no doubt a quailty product but a drillpress and some grinding bits will work just fine, if they are too close to the edge I'll weld some more plate on.

An engine to trans bolt will thread into the housing injector bungs but what about the others?

Do I simply remove the 5&6 port sleeves?

no you do not remove the 6 port sleeves. That is if its a racing beat dellortro manifold. Basically, the racing beat manifold bolts to the stock lower one, so that way you can keep your 6 port acutators working for the best power all around.

Are you talking about the holes in the center plate for the fuel injectors.? I completely forgot. You need to get a fuel injector plug kit. Racing beat sells them.

Do the 6 port actuators work on manifold vaccum?
I have the lower stock manifold with actuators. How can I make them work?

The dell I have coming has a stock lower manifold also, it dosen't have the actuators.

the aux port actuators work on exhaust backpressure.

The aux ports worked on exhaust backpressure on 84 and 85 13B's. They worked off the air pump from 86 on I believe. But I could be wrong. I really don't know much about the 13B's. I have only dealt with a 12A engine and when I do go to 13B, it will be a 4 port.

I just had a brainstorm about a 6 port 12A engine. Has it ever been done? It would be possible if you use 12A rotor housings and 13B side housings. Sorry to hijack you thread. I just thought of that.

I just thought it would be a neat little engine. Good low end torque and better high end power than a stock 12A.

Yep, they did. The UK was one main export, although they really didn't make that many of them, and they had about 10 more hp if I recall correctly. Does anyone have a pic of a stock 6p 12A? It's the one with the black air cleaner housing for the carb. I know I've seen a pic before, but I must have not saved it.

ok the actuators do work on exhaust pressure, So I guess I just hook them up like normal.

There is a tube sticking straight up out of the top of the rear side housing on the intake and exhaust side, what is it and what do I do with it?

Any other things I need to do with intake or exhaust to carb the motor?

Jorx, I think that verticaltube is the heater. I just blocked my off.

Hey 85, I think that the additional posts on 86-87 run off exhaust and on the 88-91 they run of air from the air pump.
